Who am I?

Hello!

I will try to be concise, but I cannot promise anything. All in all, I hope you get a little grasp of who I am by reading this. My name is Ana Maria Cobo, but you can call me Ana. I am originally from a town that no one outside of Colombia really knows of, called Cali. When I was very young, my family and I moved to Mexico City. This family migration made my accent kind of weird, not as odd as my sister’s (because she was younger. I’m joking sister, if you ever read this), but growing up, I didn’t feel like I belonged anywhere. I did not sound Colombian enough in Colombia, but in Mexico City, I surely was not Mexican. And so, I found myself fitting in inside other worlds. I began to escape by reading a lot of fiction, watching kids novelas, translated American TV shows, and movies, and that became my fake reality. Soon enough, I wanted to make this kind of story utopia I had created for myself three-dimensal and real.

So, this is the part where I realize that introductions are tough, but at least we can save ourselves the awkward parts. Imagine I am stretching my hand out to you as I introduce myself. But instead of giggling awkwardly, give me more than three seconds before you can make a judgment.

If I had to write a memoir, it would be impossible to talk about myself without culture. I am a mixture of them. Think of it as one of those yogurt parfaits. My Colombianness is the yogurt, while the first layer of fruit would be my forming years in Mexico City. A semester in Paris, another layer of fruit, and Los Angeles would be the topping granola. In simpler words, I am a mixture of cultures, and I make sure my work speaks of it. I find interest in many things at once. I am a writer who aspires to write for her entire life and make a living from it. I write scripts, poetry, fiction, and articles. I have also acquired the ability to develop exciting visual concepts.

I graduated from ArtCenter College of Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Direction and a minor in Creative Writing. I’ve attended acting school, where I gathered an Associate’s Degree in Performing Arts. So, here is when you’re like, “So, what do you want to do with your life?” Well, in a perfect world, I would be traveling the world as I write stories that are later turned into television shows. But as of now, I am fine with whatever creative endeavor I can be part of. I enjoy the creative process, developing concepts, and thinking of ideas to create or write about.

You will find what interests me and parts of myself on this website. As I have incorporated not only conceptual work but my creative work.

I hope you find something you enjoy; if not, at least get somewhat entertained for a few minutes or not, you are free to do whatever.

New Fears, Old Stars

I discovered I’ve recently developed an unknown fear. I find it odd that at this age I have attained a new phobia: the velocity of planes. It’s a newborn feeling, my heart palpitating as fast as the aircraft erupts from the gray gravel. It’s a recent sensation to feel my chest crush my throat and…
